Los Angeles Unified School District issued the following announcement on Nov. 23
Los Angeles Unified and Teamsters Local 572 have reached an agreement on how to reopen schools as soon as possible, in the safest way possible. While the overall level of COVID-19 at this time is well above the state guidelines for the possible reopening of schools, Los Angeles Unified and Teamsters Local 572 are working to prepare for the return of students when it is safe and appropriate.
“We are committed to the highest standards for health, education and employee practices at schools. Our office managers, food service managers and plant managers are working tirelessly to ensure schools are safe and welcoming learning environments,” Superintendent Austin Beutner and Teamsters Local 572 Secretary-Treasurer Rick Middleton said. “We are preparing to serve students at schools as soon as possible, in the safest way possible. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of the men and women of Teamsters Local 572 to make sure schools are ready for students to return when it’s safe and appropriate.”
Summary of Agreement
- Supervising safety practices at schools by employees, such as the wearing of protective facial masks, social distancing and cleaning and disinfecting classrooms and campuses.
- Providing professional development for all Unit S employees to provide effective training necessary to perform special duties and assignments.
- A stipend will be paid to some Unit S members in recognition of the extraordinary work involved in planning for and implementing this effort.
- The Agreement is subject to the approval of the Board of Education.
